THAT WAS FAR TOO MUCH WORK FOR A NALGENE BOTTLE.
The Peabody bookstore no longer has Nalgene bottles.
Keep in mind, it's raining.
I left at 3:45. Exactly. I JUST made it to the shuttle before it left. I had to run.
So I took the Hopkins shuttle to homewood. I realized on the shuttle that could call Nirosha and ask her to meet me so I wasn't totally lost. However, I left my cell phone in my room, so that was out. But I figured, I was vaguely familiar with homewood from the times I'd gotten off that shuttle to visit David. I got left off at a stop that was NOT what I expected. It WAS the homewood stop, but I guess it's different for this week, or maybe for good. I have no idea. It was farther away from campus than I really wanted to be... and I wasn't quite sure where to go. So... I was walking down Charles Street (I think??) and I was right by bushes, which creeped me out, because people can pop out of bushes (I just attended a safety/city smarts meeting last night, lol). So I find two girls wearing Hopkins sweatshirts, and ask them where Gilman/the bookstore was (at least I knew the building I was looking for!), and they said they were heading there anyway. So they took me across campus to Gilman. Really quickly, mind you. Damn long legs. By now, it was 4:10. AND THE FREAKING BOOKSTORE CLOSES AT 4:00. The guy was like, "sorry, we're closed." So the girls suggested I tell him my story, so I did. I said, "Are you sure I can't? I came all the way from Peabody just to get a Nalgene bottle." So he said "...Okay, make it quick" and let me in - there WERE still people in the bookstore finishing buying things, it was just closed to new customers. Except for me.
So I got my freaking 17 dollar nalgene bottle (!?!?!) which I realized later I could have put on debit.... and then I left and started asking around on how to get the hell back to the shuttle stop. I asked random people on campus, which made me feel stupid, but oh well. I was heading towards Charles and University (which is where I was told to go), but then I see a Hopkins shuttle stop at Charles and... I think it was 31st? Could have been 33rd. I don't even remember... I thought I could catch it. I ran. And ran. And almost had an asthma attack. Until it left. Without me. "OH CRAP" I think, and I expect to wait another half an hour for the next one. At a Baltimore bus stop. In the rain. WTF, SKETCHY. So there are some Hopkins people and probably not Hopkins people at this bus stop, and I'm asking them about the Hopkins/Peabody shuttle, and the student said "you just missed it." Yeah, I know. So this Asian woman assures me that there will probably be another one in the next ten minutes. Sure enough, there was one in about two minutes. THANK GOD.
So I'm sopping wet (I had considered bringing an umbrella but didn't expect it to be this freaking horrendous), and I get on the shuttle TOO SOON because people had to get off first. So then I get on, and at the next stop (which waited there for about fifteen minutes because that was the REAL stop people were telling me about to go to. So I strike up a really nice conversation with the bus driver, which was awesome. But I had to wait until 4:45 for the bus to start again.
So, I got back to Peabody at 5:00. The parking stop, though, so I had to dodge traffic (really just jaywalk a little) to avoid the rain, and get into the parking garage. Then I didn't recognize where I was, but luckily, there was the elevator to the West dorms. I recognized it because of the cracked wall inside. And then I returned to my dorm, sopping wet (and soaked in really odd places on my shirt... oh well, I guess rain will fall on them).
I want to practice today, really badly, but I am SO DRAINED it's not funny. Maybe after dinner, which may replenish me.
And so, my friends, you might ask, "why the hell did she go through all that trouble just to get a Nalgene bottle?"
And then, my friends, the answer you might receive, in turn, would be:
BECAUSE I AM A DEHYDRATED VOICE MAJOR AND I WANT MY FUCKING WATER.
