Aug. 21st, 2006 06:24 amNot sure what's holding me up; I'm exhausted!
Went with Sarah and her parents and Megan (who I had really never talked to before in my life but who is awesome) to the Chinese August Moon Festival in Quincy today. IT WAS AWESOME. OMG the food was so good (and worth the horrendous wait at the restaurant for my particular order, lol) I had a curry beef bun, passion fruit green bubble tea, a few spoonfuls of Sarah's sweet corn.... something or other.... and a few spoonfuls of Megan's coconut... something or other. Including a piece of taro that was FAR too big for my mouth and I should not have tried to chew it. XD And of course the chow fun that took far too long but was delicious.
Took several pictures. Some of which include a dancing lion train thingy (like the dragons with the people under them but it was a lion), dancers with ribbons and parasols, some yo-yo guys and some drummers, and some amusing product labels that were severely lost in translation or just sound funny (e.g., "Cock brand Mackerel," which I took a picture of while sighing and saying "oh, I am SO immature). Megan found some tea for me that is supposed to help my throat and lungs, too, because she reads Chinese. Also some cough syrup (with English directions for my own safety... haha).
Oh, and there was this dice throwing thing, and there were six dice, and I threw them all and got four of a kind! So I got a little pinwheel that says "Have a happy Millennium!" It's awesome.
OH! and I GOT A FREAKING CHINESE OPERA DVD FOR A DOLLAR. Totally dying to find out what this is all about. I figure, I study Western opera, I want to know about all kinds of opera. I hear the vocals are tough to listen to, though... but if I got used to and can enjoy the Naxi ancient music CD J. Smith let me borrow (and I ripped), I think it should be fine.
AND DID I MENTION HOW FREAKING AWESOME SYMPHONIC METAL IS???
It's awesome.
