Stephanie -
Thank you for your e-mail. I am looking for an intern in the archives who is comfortable with the digital world (particularly photoshop) and is interested in working with visual material. We have a large prints and drawings collection which includes a large collection of photographs. I am looking for an intern who would work exclusively with this material. One of the collections which is a priority for us is the A. S. Pope collecton of prints, drawings, photographs, manuscripts, books and memorabilia related to the world of opera from the 18th century to 2005. It is a treasure trove - daunting in size and scope, but wonderful. We have three interns working in the archives and one more pair of hands, devoted to prints and drawings would be terrific. Because this is an anniversary year (Peabody was founded in 1857 - we'll be celebrating the 250th), the archives will be mounting a large exhibition in the George Peabody Library. All of us will be working on the preparatio
n and installation of the exhibit. It will be frantic as the deadline nears, but we'll all be happy, I hope, when it is opened. Be warned that all of us, regardless of what we are working on, are from time to time diverted to jump in on a priority project that has fallen on our heads unexpectedly.
If you still think you'd want to jump into this, let me know. There will be no hard feelings if you would prefer to spent the year elsewhere, typing and making xerox copies.
