Apr. 28th, 2006 05:04 pmWOW I am vocally exhausted. O_o NATS tomorrow, too.
So in voice lab last week I said someone's word sounded like "pene" and I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be "bene" or "penne," and said "I was told that double consonants are important because if you mean to say 'penne' and you say 'pene' it means something totally different." Charles looked at me funny. So I remembered about it today. Freetranslation.com says pene means "you suffer." That makes sense. I tried some other dictionaries, and they had pene as a word for penis as well.
So, in Italian, "penis" and "you suffer" are the same word.
Hmm.
