Apr. 9th, 2006 05:16 pmMichigan - Research is being done at the University of Michigan on a potential cure for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
It was found that enlarged tonsils cause sleeping problems, which comes as no surprise considering that 50% of children with ADHD have sleeping problems. This in turn cause restlessness during the day, which contributes to, or in some circumstances causes, poor behavior.
So the University of Michigan began a research study and found that half of children with ADHD that had had their tonsils removed were free of the condition nearly a year later.
Today alone there are between 5 to 7 million children diagnosed with ADHD and about twenty years ago, the numbers were as low as half a million.
Within the same time period the number of prescriptions for Ritalin rose from almost two million to nineteen million.
The majority of people receiving these drugs are males because three to six more boys are diagnosed with the disease than girls. The reasons being that males act out more than females do.
The tonsil removal procedure has not been proven to be a cure, but is a step towards solving the sudden outbreak of ADHD that has occurred within the past couple of decades.
THAT is CRAP! That's not ADHD, that's just lack of sleep. God. Don't people know the difference?? I know people who have had their tonsils out and still have ADHD. And I don't have large tonsils. It's a frigging medical problem that has little to do with sleep. Sleep helps, but it doesn't fix it. Effort and the right drug (or something else if you're Tom Cruise) STILL doesn't fix it, it just takes a HUGE load off the chest of an ADD-er. God. I hate how stupid people can be.
And this was not directed at the author of this article. This was directed at the idiots doing that research.
It's a chemical imbalance, not caused by the tonsils making you sleep less. Those kids probably never had it to begin with.
