Jan. 4th, 2006 10:17 pmChinatown trip: SUCCESS!
Meghan and I left Londonderry via Concord Trailways at 8:50, got into Boston at around I don't even remember I think it was 10, I was really tired. Went straight to Chinatown - it was RIDICULOUSLY windy and my earrings made my ears even colder. Arrived at China Pearl and had AMAZING dim sum. Loved: Spring roll, beef noodle, pork bun, meatballs. So-so: Shrimp balls - I wouldn't have gotten them if I remembered Meg didn't like shrimp. Too weird: their shumai. I love shumai, too. It just had an odd flavor. But the pork buns were GOD. Shame we didn't have room for the rice pancakes.
Walked around Chinatown, got some more tea (Lichee Black), and jasmine soap, and some pocky at a little market, plunked down FAR more money than I wanted to at a boutique and got one of those outfits that you see people doing T'ai Chi in and it's all satiny and pretty (I hesitate to call them pajamas, but alas, that is what they are going to become). And I am once again convinced that I was Asian in a past life because my feet fit perfectly into Chinese shoes! I can't fit into regular shoes - not even just the sizing is different, but the foot shape. And it would be interesting if physical characteristics carried over into other lives because I have a really high arch and wonder if that has anything to do with foot-binding. Ow.
Then... we had BUBBLE TEA! I missed bubble tea so much. Such a treat. I had Papaya milk tea and Meghan had Peach tea. So good. I'm glad Meghan liked it.
Saw a "specialty" store, wanted to go in but it was 21 and over, not 18 and over. Was disappointed.
Headed over to Cambridge via the T, gave money to a subway guitarist, went to Kotobukiya. I didn't buy anything because I was pissed at myself for plunking down 59 dollars at the boutique, but Meghan got some soda, which I tried and it was quite good, even if it was a bitch to open.
Walked up and down a strip of shops, saw that everything was too expensive, but were happy to work off the dim sum calories.
Headed back to South Station via the T, realized the next ride back to Londonderry was about an hour and a half away... so Meghan was hungry so we went to McDonald's because it was cheap and I leeched off her fries (sorry!). Somewhere along the way Meghan got a copy of the Herald, and we started working on the crossword, then it took me a while to find a good crossword puzzle book that wasn't those stupid easy ones because I like a challenge. Time flew a bit with them, and we boarded the bus and got back to Londonderry at 4:45, then Meghan stayed over for dinner and bits of movies on TV and stuff because we didn't have any energy to go up to Concord to eat at Siam Orchid and go elsewhere around town and such, or see Memoirs of a Geisha. But seriously, we were exhausted. And it was a fun day. I miss my Shmoogin!
